For decades, the Nicollet Island Historic Homes have provided rental housing for people of low to moderate incomes within one of Minneapolis’ most historic neighborhoods.
Today, these six historic properties are being offered for sale.
The residents have organized the Nicollet Island Cooperative (308c), a limited-equity housing cooperative working to preserve these properties as affordable homes for generations to come.
We are ready to purchase our homes.
The Nicollet Island Cooperative, together with our acquisition partner Land Bank Twin Cities, is ready to submit a competitive proposal to acquire all six properties together.
Our goal is simple:
Keep residents in their homes.
Preserve affordable housing.
Protect the historic character and economic diversity of Nicollet Island.
Continue decades of resident stewardship.
These homes were preserved through substantial public investment and are part of a long-standing public-purpose framework for Nicollet Island. We believe their future should continue that legacy.
A Community Worth Preserving
We are a cohesive neighborhood of artists, musicians, teachers, social workers, service providers, caretakers, and healers. Many residents in these houses have called Nicollet Island home for decades, building relationships and caring for this unique place.
We also share a strong connection with the homeowners of Nicollet Island. Many support our efforts and want us to remain part of this community.
The character of Nicollet Island comes from the people who live here, care for one another, and have stewarded this historic neighborhood across generations.
