“I support the Nicollet Island Cooperative. Please help preserve these historic homes as affordable, prevent displacement, and support resident ownership.”
A Community Worth Preserving
For decades, six historic properties on Nicollet Island have provided affordable rental housing for a mixed-income community in one of Minneapolis’ most unique and historic neighborhoods.
These homes have a special public legacy. As part of the redevelopment of Nicollet Island in the 1980s, significant public investment helped acquire and restore these historic homes—not simply to preserve the buildings, but to preserve them for a public purpose that included affordable housing. That investment helped create the diverse residential community that has called the island home for generations.
Now, these homes are being sold. The residents have organized the Nicollet Island Cooperative (308c), a limited-equity housing cooperative working to preserve these properties as affordable homes for generations to come.

These homes were preserved through substantial public investment and are part of a long-standing public-purpose framework for Nicollet Island. We believe their future should continue that legacy.
We are ready to purchase our homes
Nicollet Island Cooperative, together with our partner Land Bank Twin Cities, is ready to submit a competitive proposal to acquire these six historic properties together. We will maintain affordability, while preserving history and community.
